car2go – From pioneer to market leader in free-floating carsharing
Behind the car2go brand is the first, and now the world’s largest company in the free-floating carsharing sector. It was founded in 2008. The mobility concept is currently available internationally at 26 locations (14 in Europe, including 7 in Germany, 11 in North America & 1 in Asia).
The principle of car2go
The principle behind the concept: To be able to drive a car anywhere and at any time. Once registered, customers have access via a smartphone app to nearly 14,000 cars. The cars can be hired at an affordable price. At each location, there are between 250 and 1,100 cars available within the home area. Via the app, customers can fully flexible and individually find, hire and pay for, or respectively, automatically end the rental of the vehicles. Parking fees, fuel/ electricity and insurance are included in the price. Furthermore there is no monthly basic fee. Nearly 2,7 Million car2go customers are using the innovative mobility concept. The smart and Mercedes-Benz vehicles– including 1400 electric vehicles are spreaded at the three fully electric locations Stuttgart, Amsterdam and Madrid. Completely in accordance with your personal usage and driving requirements: Ideal for one-way journeys in the city, for business appointments or for transporting the weekend shopping.
The Sharing Economy
About 65 Percent of the car2go customers are between 26 and 45 years old. Thereunder families, couples, students or business costumers. These people have one thing in common: they want to be flexible. They are always on the move, love cars and want to act sustainable – they are proud to share! And they also use Free-floating carsharing by car2go. Often in direct combination with the regional local public transport network. In Germany, car2go has direct cooperation agreements with several regional local public transport providers.
car2go operating worldwide
The car2go Group GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Daimler AG and has its headquarters in Leinfelden-Echterdingen. There is employed a staff of around 600 people worldwide. The operative business within Europe is man-aged by car2go Europe GmbH. A joint venture company of Daimler and Europe’s leading car rental company, Europcar. In North America, the 11 car2go locations are operated by car2go North America LLC. The first location in Asia was launched in April 2016 in Chongqing, a metropolis in central China with around 30 million inhabitants.
