One TRUMPF marking laser, 48 hours and room for creative ideas

Electrical toothbrushes, shower heads, cell-phone keys, brand-name saucepans, tachometers, gear levers in shifting gates, mp3 players, mini-plugs, solar cells, silicon chips, sheet metal parts – and the list of laser-marked parts could go on and on.

Marking is very obviously one of the most versatile laser processes. The production of consumable and industrial goods without laser marking would be unthinkable these days. „Laser marking“ is a general term for a number of processes: engraving, ablation, annealing, discoloration and foaming. The material and quality requirements determine which process is suitable.

The marking laser is only one example of the many machines, systems and services of the high-tech company TRUMPF.

For the Hackathon Stuttgart, we are offering the possibility of giving free rein to creativity by using the marking laser on-site.

  • Connect the marking laser to the cloud as an I(nternet)O(f)T(hings) device.
  • Create a market place for the marking laser with live transmission.
  • Melt down the limits of cutting process visualization with the new possibilities of augmented or virtual reality.
  • Make new use cases and services possible.
  • Teach the marking laser to obey the spoken word.
  • Start the laser process with a wink.

Be creative and surprise us with new ideas and possibilities for the use of a TRUMPF marking laser. We’ll bring the hardware and an appropriate software API for its application to the Hackathon Stuttgart.

The API is based on Microsoft .NET and WCF (Windows Communication Foundation). Here are some examples of what it can offer:

  • Detecting the laser status
  • Switching the laser on
  • Switching the laser off
  • Opening/closing the shutter

The marking laser also offers the possibility of making its process data available via the communication protocol OPC UA.

During the 48 hours of the hackathon, we will support you with code examples and our software experts. We’re looking forward to meeting you and hearing your ideas.
